character-ai.io is an editorial site — no accounts, no comments, no user-generated content. This page explains what limited data is handled, how, and what your rights are.

The short version

The site does not collect names, email addresses, or any account-linked personal data, because there are no accounts. Server logs record standard request metadata (IP address, user-agent, referrer, timestamp) for security and performance monitoring. Third-party analytics may run for aggregate audience measurement. Some outbound links are affiliate links that pass an anonymous tracking parameter to the destination platform. That is the full scope.

Data collected in server logs

Every request to the site produces a standard log entry containing IP address, requested URL, HTTP referrer, user-agent string and timestamp. Logs are retained for a short window (typically 30 days) for security incident review, abuse detection and performance debugging. Logs are not sold, licensed or shared with third parties beyond the site's hosting provider.

Cookies

The site itself sets one persistent value in your browser: an age-gate acknowledgement, stored in localStorage under a boolean key. That is not a cookie in the tracking sense — it holds only the fact that you confirmed you are 18+. Clearing site data or using a different browser resets it, at which point the age gate appears again on next visit.

Third-party services embedded on the site (Google Fonts for typography, and any analytics or affiliate tools currently in use) may set their own cookies under their own privacy policies. Those are not controlled by this site.

Third-party services

Google Fonts serves the Bricolage Grotesque, Instrument Sans and Space Mono typefaces from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com. Font loading involves a request to Google, which may see your IP address and user-agent. Google's privacy practices apply to that request.

Analytics may be present in aggregated, non-identifying form. If cookie-based analytics are running, they run under their vendor's privacy notice; this site does not enrich analytics data with any personal identifiers because none are collected.

Affiliate networks. Outbound CTAs to Character AI or alternative platforms may include a tracking parameter in the URL so the destination platform can attribute the referral. That parameter is opaque to this site and contains no personal identifier.

What the site does not do

• No accounts, no signup, no login.
• No comments, no user profiles, no user-generated content of any kind.
• No email newsletter, no marketing email collection.
• No cross-site tracking pixels beyond what a linked affiliate network may attach at the destination platform.
• No behavioural profile of individual visitors.

Retention

Server access logs are retained for approximately 30 days, then purged. The localStorage age-gate flag persists in your browser until you clear site data or use a different browser. Nothing else is retained on the site's side because nothing else is collected on the site's side.

Reader rights

Under the GDPR (in the EU/EEA), the UK GDPR, the California CCPA and equivalent frameworks elsewhere, readers have rights of access, correction, deletion and portability over any personal data a controller holds. Because this site does not hold personal data linked to an identifiable person, most such requests are moot — there is nothing to hand over. If you have a specific question about data your IP address might appear in on the server logs during the 30-day retention window, the editor can be contacted through the channel below.

Children

The site is 18+ only and takes no measures aimed at children. Details on the age-gate policy live on the age verification page.

Changes to this policy

Substantive changes get dated on this page. When a change happens, the dateModified in the schema is bumped and (where the change materially affects a reader) a plain-language summary appears in the editorial policy correction log.
